Travel Reflection: Trip to Tampa, Florida: Traveling Solo and helpful tips!
Last year January 2019, I traveled solo to Tampa, Florida to take a mini vacation and writing retreat for myself. It was the best thing I could have done at the time. Here are some things that I learned about when traveling to Tampa Florida solo that I believe will be helpful for you as well. They are mentioned in no particular order.
- In Tampa there is an awesome trolley that you can take for free most times from downtown Tampa to Ybor city and back! Also there are many stops along the way!
- Ybor City has a great museum to visit that gives history and a mini tour for less than $5!
- You will definitely need to rent a car while in Florida unless you want to take a Lyft or Uber everywhere you go (which can be expensive). Florida is made up of many big highways and roads, and buses don’t always go where you would like to be dropped off at, unless you would like to take multiple buses to get to your location. I wasn’t used to this being that where I live most streets are small and I can easily take a bus or walk for the most part and so it was a bit of a culture shock.
- Speaking of buses, if you plan on just staying in the downtown Tampa area there is a transit bus that goes straight from the Tampa International Airport right into downtown Tampa which can be quite convenient being that the bus fare is only $2!
- Moreover, solo traveling is awesome! It’s a great time for reflection, and you don’t have to come to a group consensus to pick spots to go. You can have the freedom to choose whichever place to go and how long you want to be at a respective destination. Of course, there are benefits to traveling in a group as well, like sharing the experience with loved ones first hand. However, as long as you are street smart and have a good sense of direction, you can do pretty well traveling solo and have more time to reflect on life as well as meet interesting people along the way!
- It’s best to visit Florida in the winter ( If you don’t want the humidity)! I was a true snowbird, and I’m not afraid to admit it. The weather was perfect the entire time that I stayed in Florida and booking plane tickets seemed to have been cheaper around this time in January/December months.
